orz!

Have you ever had a shitty day?  I did on Monday.  It was one of the worst days where thing after thing happened that made me really just want to crawl into bed and call it a day--at 11:00 a.m.

The first thing that happened was I woke up not feeling great.  When you have a busy week ahead and you wake up on Monday morning not feeling great, that's not promising.  As you all know, I am very close with my sisters.  Well, the next thing that happened was an explosive argument via text.  This was all before 9:30 a.m.

Then, when I arrive at the office, I notice that I forgot to bring my laptop.  I really, really, really, REALLY hate when that happens.  So, I go to my office, get notes, and decide to just work from home.  I thought, "Okay, well, everything is telling me to go home, so I'll just go home and maybe the day will improve."

Next thing I know, I back out of my space into someone else's car.  I'm only one month away from getting a new Dolly!  Gah gah gah...  So, the whole way home, I'm trying to think of ways that I can cover up the mess so that Mr. Nonny Nu won't be mad at me.  But, I didn't and just told the truth when I got home.  After some well-deserved berating for my carelessness, I set up shop to do work.

Work work work...

I actually got a lot done.  By dinner time, I started to believe that the Apocalypse might not happen that day after all and I was ready to enjoy the evening.  Had a great dinner, and then I was about to head upstairs to shower when--*plop!*--I dropped my two-month old phone.  For those of you who have not visited the Nu Residence, we have the hardest stone floors known to mankind.  I picked up my phone to find this.

This is when my brain screamed, "orz!"

But you know what?  That was Monday.  Today is Wednesday.  And,
look what I got in the mail just now!

Update:  Oh, wait, today is Thursday!

Clock

Look what Mr. Nonny Nu bought to go over his toilet. I asked him why he bought it and he said, "What?  I needed a clock there."

Update:
Here's a video of the cuckoo clock in action.

The Dark Place

Hello, Friends!  Long time no see.  Been a bit busy, but getting back into the swing of things.  There has been much travel in this rabbit's life.  First, it was London (pamphlet forthcoming).  Then, New York City (New York City?  Get a rope...).   Last month, I also went to my old stomping grounds...

In the middle of America is a place that is known as "The Dark Place."  I had not seen The Dark Place since I left it some time ago.  I went back recently and it wasn't as dark as I remembered it!

My first day many moons ago was a day similar to this one.  I walked through this archway and went to my first class--Contracts at 7 a.m.  Mr. Gargoyle looked on.  The quad greeted me with its light and trees and squirrels.  Oh, Mr. Squirrel!  How I missed you.

Then, there's the school itself, with its old reading room and new(er) law library.  Yes, the new law library is a modern structure that is built underground (just the way rabbits like it).  But, one wouldn't feel buried in it, not with all the light streaming in from the windows.  Here, you can see from the outside at ground level where the law library is dug into the ground and extends from the reading room's stained glass windows.  From the inside of the law library, you can see the reading room's stained glass windows, and vice versa.  The old watching over the new, and the old in the eyes of the new.  In fact, when I used to be a younger rabbit, here was my favorite seat for studying.  It was hard to study, though, because I was so tempted to just gaze through the windows.  The library was a multi-tiered warren, similar to the double-tiered warren that is the Nu Warren, and filled with nooks and crannies for studious rabbits.

As to classes, here is the class room where my first class took place.  I sat here.  The building has beautiful long corridors with stone floors polished and worn down by foot traffic, and lined with windows teaching against crimes like barratry (ambulance chancing).  Sometimes, the windows are good for just looking out of, which isn't half bad at this time of year.  Here is where I got my school mail.  My locker was the first one on the left in this room.  Here is where I was, when Mr. Nonny Nu narrated via cell phone that a second plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.  On that note...

I finally got to walk around town and just see places.  Lo and behold, I found a hammock.  I also ate at the famous deli in town where a vegetarian clerk named Brian gave me a great recommendation on a reuben.  It was also chock full of tasty bottled items, sammiches, and AWESOME salads (I sampled four types).

All in all, it was a great trip.  For some odd reason, I never thought I would ever go back.  But now that I have, I'm glad.  I guess sometimes it takes time away to become friends with a place.

Indian Giver of British Products

Less than three months ago, I was in London.  It feels like it has been ages since then, though.  I had so much fun.  I am working on a small, informational publication on the subject of London to be delivered, hopefully, as Christmas presents to my Friends.

On that trip, I met up with an old friend from yesteryear--Old Chap.  Back in the day, Old Chap, Cl. Panic, Green Thumbs McGillicutty, L. Woods, and I all worked in the same law firm.  Old Chap was in the London office.  One wintry day, we all flew to Washington, D.C., to participate in some training, and that's where we all met each other.  We have kept in touch since then!  It was one of only a handful of good things that came out of working in that firm.

Naturally, when I finally made my way to London, I called up Old Chap and off we went to have wonderful Pakistani food.  We went to Tayyabs.  O.  M.  G.  This was so good.  But Old Chap's food tips didn't end there.  He also directed me to Fortnum & Mason, described by Old Chap as "the quintessential supplier of English goodies."  Boy, he was not kidding.

On my last full day in London, I paid a visit to Fortnum & Mason and bought so many biscuits (cookies), teas, and jellies.  Most were slated for gifts to friends and family.  But I learned a valuable lesson:  Send food gifts as soon as possible because, the longer you hold on to them, the more likely they will end up in your own stomach.  There were two jellies (a hunter's marmalade and a rose jelly) that were slated for MonkeyPig and 3-Fish, respectively.  Those did not survive long enough in the US to reach their intended destinations.  So, I ordered replacements (plus other things) online.  I kept the dark lime jelly (detailed description).

Dutifully, I sent the goodies to their intended recipients.  In advance of their arrival, I tell 3-Fish that I'm sending her a rose jelly.  Well, guess who's too good for rose jellies and breakfast in general?  So, I tell 3-Fish to send the rose jelly back if she's not going to eat it because I would eat it.  The rose jelly was delivered back to my house yesterday.  What's wrong with this picture?  Yep, Mr. Nonny Nu had to pay the postman $1.55 because *somebody* didn't pay the full postage.  But here is the treasure trove, complete with polar bear greeting card to Mr. Nonny Nu conveying a hateful but accurate complaint about a most beloved rabbit:

Happy Birthday to Mr. Nonny Nu!

Today was Mr. Nonny Nu's birthday!  So many friends and family wished him a happy birthday--it really made the day special. Not sure what I could get for the bear that his own paws could not obtain, I decided to offer my services in the kitchen.

But, what to cook? Mr. Nonny Nu has long since loved Eggs Benedict. In recent days, he has been foraging in the forest on his own in search of EB with porcine-level enthusiasm for truffles. Alas, no local diner could satisfy Mr. NN's standards.

Enter The Rabbit.

This morning, we got up early and I tried to make EB for Mr. NN's birthday breakfast. I watched about 10 YouTube "how to" videos the night before, but I still disappointed myself with an F. Okay, maybe a D.  Not only was the English muffin too crunchy (actually hard because I think I let it cool too much before serving), the sauce was not tangy enough and the components were not all hot. But, Mr. NN gamely ate his entire plate, and half of mine.  This was a serious case of "it's the thought that counts."  Now that EB has throw n down the gauntlet, I accept the challenge. I'm trying again tomorrow!  Here's what today's attempt looked like:

Dinner was a different story. I got high marks!  We had broiled salmon (an ursine favorite) with Bearnaise sauce. (The Bearnaise sauce was attempted last week as a dry run for today's birthday dinner so I was actually confident this time.) We also had roasted asparagus in lemon juice and olive oil, potatoes au gratin (okay, this was a box concoction requested by the birthday bear), salad, and French baguette.
At the end of the meal, Kashy crashed the party. He was dressed up with his hair slicked back and wearing his usual ascot (name tag on the side instead of in the middle). If you look closely, you can see him starting to go cross-eyed. That's what happens when he is in a feeding frenzy. Skillet did not partake.  She is usually disgusted by human food, even fish.

Update September 2, 2012 (the morning after):
Improvement!  The English muffin was still on the toasted side, but the sauce was better (slightly too tangy), the egg was just right, and everything was hot.  Check out the B-grade EB:

My New Roommate
by Sushi, guest blogger

Hello, everybody!

Sushi here with an update on Pet Paradise.

I was assigned a new roommate early this morning.  Her name is "Woo."  It turns out that we have mutual friends and are, in fact, related.  I had never met Woo before so I was so surprised to know that she is my cousin on my mom's side.

Yesterday, Management installed a bunk bed in my room and told me I was going to get a roommate.  When Woo arrived in the wee hours of the morning, she came bounding into the apartment and gave me a great big hug.  Woo is a fun gal!  And, very thoughtful (she said she'd take the top bunk since I like to be cozy and "enclosed" on the bottom bunk).  [Interesting trivia:  When mom and Auntie MonkeyPig were growing up, they also shared a bunk bed with Auntie MonkeyPig on the top bunk and mom on the bottom bunk.]

As we got to talking, I was very surprised to learn that Woo used to have arthritis because she had jumped up to the top bunk with no problem.  She told me how her very loving momma would take her all over the country in a stroller and take her on nature walks.  I think Woo is the most well-travelled doggie among my acquaintances here in Pet Paradise.  We talked until the sun came up and she told me about seeing Yosemite and many different national parks.  She also described extensively the lovely roads her mom drove on with Woo and her brother, Baysee, sitting comfortably in the back seat, humming tunes and taking in the scenery.  Woo said she had a lot of fun.

While she was reminiscing about her travels, Woo hit on what she wanted to do with her life here in Pet Paradise:  Woo has decided to become Pet Paradise's first tour guide.  We have many hills, forests, lakes, and even deserts here in Pet Paradise--we have anything we want here!  Being a well-travelled doggie with many road trips under her belt, Woo will be fantastic at this.  I include a pic of Woo (right) when she went out this morning to figure out a good route for her first tour.  (She said that her ticket prices will be reasonable and she will offer that all military families will enjoy the tours free of charge.)

Woo is also going to learn to swim.  That was one thing that she hasn't done yet.  We have a class for that (it's free--don't worry Aunt MonkeyPig).

But there is one thing that Woo and I have very much in common--we love food!  Both of our moms knew this about us and would feed us table scraps.  Yum...  Here in Pet Paradise, the cafeteria is filled with dinner tables and chairs, but we don't sit at the tables.  No, we sit under the tables and among the chair legs.  That's just how we roll in Pet Paradise!

Before I end this transmission, I'd like to give a shout out to my mom and dad!  **flicks tail**

Yours truly,
Sushi

P.S.  Woo brought this picture with her and it's now on the table in the foyer of our apartment.  It shows Woo's mom and younger brother with Woo on a camping trip.

Self-Portrait and Magnets

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

This morning, I rode the rails with Cl. Panic and dribbled tea all over my sweater because my beautiful Jane Austen inspired travel mug sprang a leak.  But all is well because someone at work gave me an enzyme stain remover wipe.  It works ok, but not as good as a Tide Pen.

Anywho, the moral of this story is:  I got a new magnet!!

Whenever I or one of my friends or sisters go on vacation, we bring back refrigerator magnets to share with the people who we left at home.  My very first refrigerator magnet was one from Seattle, but I will tell you how I got that later in this post.  Check out my office minifridge and my magnet collection (you can see a reflection of me taking the photo)!

I can't remember the order in which I received the magnets, but I know that the first one I got was from Green Thumbs McGillicutty.  It was from one day trip she took from San Jose to Seattle just to make the miles to keep her in some sort of airline "best customers" club or something like that.

I also have ones from San Antonio (from when I went to my niece's wedding), another one from Green Thumbs when she went to Philadelphia for a deposition, and another from myself when I went to visit MonkeyPig in Georgia (the little fish pictured was from Cl. Panic for our unfortunate but thankfully temporary stay at Drones 'R Us).

This one is from MonkeyPig when the sisters went to Georgia for a surprise visit.  And, this one is also from MonkeyPig from a few years ago when we had a sisters reunion in Washington, DC.  We ate at the Supreme Court's cafeteria and I saved my ticket stub!  The two Tinkerbell magnets holding the stub are from L. Woods when she visited Disneyworld in Florida.

Now, this one is an international magnet from Heidelberg, Germany, where L. Woods visited on business a year ago.  Note the giant gummy bears attached.

And, then, there is my most recently acquired one from Cl. Panic and A-Dog from when they flew to the Pacific Northwest recently.  It is from the actual Tillamook cheese factory and is 24K gold plated brass.  The magnetic bunnies are from Cl. Panic.  They got very hungry and attacked the cheese (they are not partial to giant gummies).

Finally, this one is not a magnet, but is nonetheless a sentiment from a dear friend who had gone afar and kept me in mind.  It is a keychain of a polar bear dressed in a UK t-shirt from when Mr. Nonny Nu went to London recently.  The bear has the Harrods' "H" stamp on the bottom of its foot.

So many little treasures!  I think my most prized items in my office might be my magnets and keychain.

June Birthdays

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to take this time to say a very special "Happy Birthday!" to my bestest kitty, Sushi Cat. You are the most special soul and I miss you so much. I know that you are up there having fun and making sure there is a comfy cloud for Momma and Daddy when we see you again. I love you very much. Here is a pepperoni pizza for you from Momma, kitty. Don't eat too much because you know you can't handle the spice so well.

Now, for my dear friend, Siddharta's girl. This has been a year of changes and progress. I am so happy that you are pursuing and finding your faith. I hope that you will find peace and happiness because you deserve it. For you, a zen cake...

Last, but not least, I had one of the best birthday celebrations ever. Not only was I taken to lunch, my awesome friends Green Thumbs McGillicutty, Mr. McGillicutty, Cl. Panic, A-Dog, and L. Woods threw an impromptu birthday celebration for me that night at the McGillicutty ranch. Even Mr. Nonny Nu was there! The McGillicuttys cooked delicious burgers on the grill, accompanied by a light orzo salad and homemade, slow cooked Boston baked beans. L. Woods provided yummy drinks to cool everyone down. And the meal ended with the Panic-Dogs' guava cake topped with Green Thumb's scrumptious homemade strawberry ice cream and TWO KINDS OF WHIPPED CREAM provided by L. Woods! These people know me so well.

But the things that touched me the most was the fact that these very busy people who routinely stay late to work had taken the day off early in order to make this impromptu party happen for me, that these people who highly value their precious and relatively scarce time with their families would give up that time to include me, and that a certain person who rarely ventured from the house got himself dressed and ready to go by the time I got home to participate in this celebration. That was the best gift of all and I will always cherish the memories in my heart.

Now, you all know how I normally like to keep my face off of the blog but I will break that rule and show you pics of me and the cake so that you can see my happiness and contentment. That fireball in the foreground is the cake with 36 candles on it.

Has anyone seen my albumin?
(by guest blogger Kashy Boy)

Hello, everyone at the Nu Warren.  Thank you for everyone's well wishes.  As most of you already know from Momma, I have been spitting up a lot.  Not just lately, but ever since I was a small child.  Nobody could figure out what it was.  Momma tried different foods, tried different treats, tried different feeding times, even tried Pepsid AC.  But, I'm still spitting up.  So, I went to the doctor's office two Caturdays ago (I'm still mad at Mom and Dad for putting me in that small box) and they took a blood sample.

When the blood tests came back, the doctor explained that I had very low albumin levels for a boy my age (I'll be 4 in July, but you wouldn't know that because Momma hasn't made the next round of calendars yet).  The problem could be a leaky intestine (the doctor checked me and said I had a thickened intestine) or maybe my liver is not working right.

So, I will have to go back on Thursday for a 2-hour test.  I will not be happy.  But, Momma will be there with me and hopefully Skillet, who has to get her shots.

Anyhow, wish me luck.  I hope we figure out what's going on.

Til next time...

Kashy Boy

Dishes from Mostly Scratch

I've discovered that I'm not so good at cooking from scratch, but I'm not bad at sprucing up instant stuff to make it into a meal.  You've all seen my handiwork with the udon noodles.  Now, I will show you what else I cooked a couple weekends ago.  They are all dishes from my childhood.1

Chinese people love soup, and my family especially love it.  So, I made a lotus root, red and white carrot soup2 with jujubes (a.k.a. dried Chinese dates or "hung tsoh") in chicken broth.  I also just blanched some watercress in the soup after it was done.  For the meat dish, I made spicy chicken steamed with preserved mustard (Chinese: tzah tsoi) and chili sauce.  For the soup and the steamed chicken, I asked Wah Toh for advice.  I followed her instruction exactly for the soup but I messed up on the chicken.  She told me twice: "Don't over-steam the chicken."  TWICE.  So what did I do?  I over-steamed the chicken.  Anywho, the dinner came out not bad.  The soup was delicious (sweet from the jujubes, but chock full of veggies).  The over-steamed chicken was tough so I didn't finish it.

An observant person would ask, "Where's the rice??"  And, I would have to answer, "I jacked that up, too.  Too much water in my newly bought $12 rice cooker."  But, I really loved the soup.  That made up for everything.  I was so full from the soup that I didn't have room for dessert.

Instead, I had the dessert for breakfast the next day.  I had gluten rice balls filled with black sesame and peanut (each rice ball is filled with sesame or peanut, not both), in a brown sugar and ginger sauce.  Super super good when accompanied by some hot jasmine tea.  The rice balls come frozen3 and you just drop them into a pot of boiling water.  When they start to float, they are nearly done.  The harder part (but not that hard) is the sauce.  You have to get the "slice sugar" (Chinese: peen tong) that is sold at Chinese stores--the packaging said "brown sugar."  You put the sugar into a sauce pan with a little bit of hot water and melt it over medium heat.  Then, you add some more hot water and a few slices of ginger.  All of this is to taste, so you would use more/less sugar and water as you see fit and based on the consistency you want.  Also, if you want more ginger taste then add more ginger.  Anywho, when the rice balls are done, you take them out of the boiling water with a slotted spoon, put them into a bowl and poor the sugar ginger sauce over it.  Like this!  I had the same dessert that night after dinner.

Okay, now, the last dinner that I made.  I chose something that was easily made and that required almost no work at all, and then a dish that required a little bit of work.  First, the easily made dish was steamed Chinese sausage.  This comes in a vacuum package and my favorite brand is Kam Yen Jan.  I have only a pic of the "white fat" variety but there's another variety that has a yellow pagoda stamp on it and it has duck liver in it as well.  I know, I know, the health conscious folk are slitting their wrists right now, but this stuff is REALLY GOOD.  You just prepare your rice and stick a few sausages in the rice and pop the whole thing into the rice cooker.  When it comes out, cut into smaller pieces and then drizzle with a little soy sauce.

Second, I made stir fried Chinese broccoli with beef.  Just cut into bite sized pieces, separating the stems from the leaves because the stems have to go in first.  Heat oil with chopped garlic and ginger, and then add the stems.  Season with salt and fairy dust4, and then add the leaves.  Now, you add a splash of rice wine.  (The ginger and the rice wine is what makes this dish.)  At the very end, add the sliced beef, preferably marinated lightly with salt, pepper, and soy sauce.  After plating, add some white pepper5 on the top.  You're done!

I supplemented with the soup from the night before and this time the rice came out great.  A complete meal!

1When I was growing up, my chores were food prep and clean up. I never was assigned with cooking, so, unlike my older sisters, I never really developed the cooking skill. This is why I'm way better at sprucing up stuff than I am at from scratch cooking.

2White carrot is also called daikon.

3I Mei is the best brand for sesame and peanut tong yuen.  You'll be sorry if you get another brand.  You'll end up with an "old pastry" taste in your mouth and the sesame is course.
Note:  Mr. Nonny Nu will likely have a comment about the phrase, "[t]he rice balls come frozen."

4MSG

5Ground white pepper is not the same as black pepper.  It's finer and therefore is better at melding with the food.  While black pepper tends to give off its flavor, white pepper tends to melt into the food itself.  I like white pepper better because I never "bite into" a piece of pepper and get an unbidden explosion of spiciness in my mouth.  I got the Chinese white pepper with the wooden lid this time.

The Mr. Nonny Nu Experience

One day, I came home to discover three very comfy house shoes.  Out of the three, I chose one (pictured at right).  This is the story of how that pair of house shoes came to be my pair of house shoes.

I'd been wearing flip flops around the house but they were too noisy with the flipping and the flopping.  I thought, "Soon, it will be fall and then winter, and then what are my rabbit feet going to do but feel cold, being exposed and everything?"

So, I said to Mr. Nonny Nu, "Bobees, can you find me a pair of house shoes?"

A week later, the three pairs of shoes arrived for my selection and I chose this pair.  That is the Mr. Nonny Nu Experience.  Ask and you shall receive (three pairs for your selection).

My favorite thing about my house shoes is that there's a picture of Mr. Nonny Nu on them.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Nonny Nu!

Forty-one years ago, a very special bear was born.  No one knew at the time that this bear would go on to become the best bartender/interior designer/cartoon voice actor/BBQer that the Silicon Valley had ever seen.  We all know him as Mr. Nonny Nu, but to his rabbit, he will always be "Bobo."

Bobs, here's a very nice seal cake for your bearmach.  I hope that you will like it and enjoy it as though it were a pre-pounced seal.  Look at the hopelessness in its eyes!  It truly understands that resistance is futile.

Many many happy bear years ahead for you!

Your ding,
nn

Lobster Safari (and Wedding)

This weekend, I went on a lobster safari. The lobster's natural habitat is on the East Coast, and one of the best known lobster preserves is located in and around the town of Boston. Green Thumbs and L. Woods accompanied me on this quest, but L. Woods arrived a day early to scope out the place.

GTM and I flew from San Jose to Boston, careful to sit in non-adjacent seats so as not to tip off the lobsters. Lobsters are very sensitive creatures and often detect trouble with their long antennae. This was my first lobster safari but I did my homework in advance, mostly in the form of daydreaming about the moment when I would meet my first lobster face to face, antennae to ears, mano y mano.
The morning of the safari, GTM and I woke up at the crack of dawn (9-ish) and prepared ourselves physically to confront the feisty lobster. I ran on the treadmill, and GTM read a book about a girl who kicked the hornet's nest (presumably in case we encounter any hornets on the way to the lobster lair). L. Woods felt that the best way to prepare for the safari was to go back to sleep for another hour.
During that hour, GTM and I warmed up and each purchased a lobster roll next door at the James Hook Lobster Aquarium. Here's what it looked like:
Look at the chunks of lobster in that baby!

Then, it was time to go on the actual hunt. We took a 30 minute ferry to The Lobster Island, attended Cl. Panic's and A-dog's beautiful wedding ceremony, and were led to a table of lobster torture instruments. When our table was called, I shot up like a rocket and stealthily slithered over to the lobster lair. Upon reaching the lair, I pointed at an unsuspecting lobster and exclaimed, "I'll take that one!" He didn't know what hit him!

I slung the slain lobster over my shoulder and dragged it back to our table. There, I eschewed the instruction sheet and relied purely on my predatory instincts to take apart the beast, limb by limb.

Afterward, we all enjoyed a wonderfully timed sunset.

The Nus wish Cl. Panic and A-dog much happiness and contentment in their life together!

The Transformation is COMPLETE

It all started with The Green Machine, my iPod Shuffle.  I was so happy to get it!  I'm still using it to listen to audiobooks when I go running.

Then, I got Paddy, the iPad.  Wow.  I haven't had my own computer since, well, since college (which is a long time ago).

Tonight, Mr. Nonny Nu surprised me with a brand new MacBook Pro!!

My transformation from PC user to Apple user is finally complete.  I love it!

P.S.  I just sent my first email to L. Woods from my MacBook!  I'm still thinking of what to name her.  I know it's a her.  I can feel it!

Tomatoes

Cl. Panic has started a trend. I am also imprisoning tomato plants! Courtesy of Green Thumbs McGillicutty, these plants were arrested and jailed at her home. After conviction, they were transferred to the world's most tranquil, welcoming, and comfy prison, located at The Nu Warren. Sure, the Nus tell the plants that the beehive shaped cages handcrafted from chicken wire are to protect them from the vicious squirrels, but we all know that these killer tomato plants have a very high recidivism rate for tomato production. Hopefully, they will put their time in prison to good use (the Nus offer workshops to teach prisoners a trade, like cream whipping or flower eating).

Homemade Whipped Cream

Check out these strawberries that I bought at a local fruit stand! They are humungous, as big as a rabbit's paw.

We couldn't bear to put Redi-Whip on these babies, even though I normally love Redi-Whip. So I got some heavy whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla and Mr. Nonny Nu whipped it into a bowl of delicious, mouth watering homemade whipped cream. Here's a close up.

Remnants

We have developed the new practice at the Warren--having fresh flowers each week! It really livens up the place. This is our third week. The first week was an assortment. The second week it was cream and purple roses. This week it's starfighter lilies. See, aren't they nice? Yesterday morning, Mr. Nonny Nu discovered that something was amiss. The victim was interviewed. Further investigation led to the apprehension of the thief (note that the mug shots clearly show remnants of the orange pollen along the thief's lip and neck).

Kashy's Traumatic Childhood Event

A couple nights ago, something traumatic happened to Kashy Boy.  I was sleeping.  I mean, really sleeping.  I was sleeping so hard that I apparently didn't hear a water glass crash to the floor downstairs.  Anyway, around 4:00 a.m., I woke up to find Kashy Boy laying on my chest like he normally does.  But, when I reached up to pet him, I sensed that he was unusually still.  That immediately snapped me out of my semi-dream state.  I felt around him and I didn't feel him purring.  I could just barely feel him breathing.

I woke up Mr. Nonny Nu and we turned on the light.  Kashy had this around his neck and over one shoulder!  Mr. Nonny Nu quickly got Kashy untangled.  After we petted him and reassured him, we went downstairs to investigate.

It turns out that Kashy got into my lunch bag.  Before going to sleep that night, I put the lunch bag, with a piece of bread saran-wrapped in the bag, next to my purse so that I would remember to take it to work the next day.  In the middle of the night, Kashy got into it (he LOVES bags), got tangled in the handle, freaked out, and struggled through the double-sink, across the length of the counter, and fell off the edge while dragging a water glass with him.

I'm just glad that he didn't get cut from the broken glass.  It must have been a struggle for him to get up the stairs and onto the bed.  Poor little boy.  He wasn't himself for a day.  He still isn't completely back to his usual self, but he's getting there.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Nu Warren!

Just like the rabbits in Watership Down, the Nus, sensing imminent destruction of their old warren*, set out for a new Nu Residence on the edge of a meadow. There were many happy and many sad memories from the old warren, but it's a new day! We must move on!

So, mirroring the Nu's move to the new Nu Residence, Nonny Nu is moving the TWoNN citizenry to The Nu Warren.** This is a new chapter in the Nus' lives and we would love to share it with you. We also encourage you to share your lives with us. Welcome, friends!

*Now foreclosed on the owner from whom the Nus were renting.
**Wow, did I just refer to myself in the third person?
