Woo the Wonder Dog
by MonkeyPig, guest blogger

Woo is a wonder dog.

I don't think many dogs can say I've been to almost the four corner of the United States. She's left her marks, and I do mean marks, at the beaches of Kaneohe Bay, Jekyll Island, Redondo beach, and St Petes in Florida. She's never been to the New England states. But. she's been to Seattle. She criss-crossed the US no less about 4 times.

She was a wonderful companion. She was considerate. Even up to the very end, she struggled outside to poop because she doesn't want to mess up the house for Mommy and Baysee.

She is a dog with will of steel. In February 2011, despite her arthritis and hip dysplasia, she slowly inched up a 45 degree incline hill of about 300 yards during one of our afternoon runs. We can't use the usual empty street because it was a work day. We went to a large empty field where Baysee and I ran. She did her usual thing to explore and light exercise. Baysee and I was running up-and-down that hill. As we came back the second time around, Woo was slowly hobbling up that hill as if to show us that she can do it, too. This is Woo - strong willed to the very end. I wish people are as strong as her.

She was really happy to see all the Aunties in May this year. It was supposed to be just Ca Loc, Wah Toh and Leung Gor. But, Nonny Nu, 3Fish, and So Ba Sing showed up to surpise Monkeypig. Woo was the star of the reunion. It was like when we were in the old house.

Even at the very end, on Wednesday, she mustered up all her energy to spent time with me. I fed her and stroked her back and gave her tummy rubs. The vet let us go outside. It was a sunny day. We spent about 20 minutes outside. She propped her head up to look around. She was so weak that I had to support her whole body for her to poop and pee.

When the decision was made, though she was very weak, for a few minutes, when she heard my voice, she looked into my eyes giving me permission and telling me to not worry about her as Sushi had reserved a bunk space for her.

She laid in my arms and went into a peaceful slumber around 1 AM.

The folks, like her Aunties, Cousins, and the Nu Warren family who had shared in our adventures, I thank you for your supports and love.

I encourage all of us with pets to view them like family and give them love. The funny thing about dogs and cats is that even if you don't love them, they unconditionally love you to death.

I put together this video as a chronical to Woo's life over these past 3-4 years. For those of you who are i-woo-literate, Woo is the black pit bull with the white streak up the nose and white chest. The younger brother Baysee it the funny looking brown down with a wrinkly forehead.

Woo, don't steal Sushi's food as you did mine.

  1. Woo is indeed a wonder dog. I don't think I've seen a more headstrong and steadfast doggie. She never let her hips get in her way of participating fully in life. That takes a lot of courage and perseverence.

  4. How providential and God-led that the 5 of us sisters all decided and were able to make it to the May 2011 GA reunion - otherwise, we would be deprived with our last chance to bid Woo a good bye.

Woo lived her life to the fullest with the help and care of her loving mom. There ought not be any regrets when love was unconditionally given and reciprocate.

Silver Pig, you have been blessed and so was woo. I truly believe all dogs, cats, and pets go to heaven. Let's hang on to this blessed hope of grand reunion!

  6. Woo is not a family dog. She is one of our family member. We will missed her forever. I am sure she will be mentioned in our conference calls no less than Bay. Yes, Woo is a responsible family member. 2 weeks ago I rcvd text from MonkeyPig, she found Woo was missing at the middle of night, then she found Woo is sleeping in the kitchen to guard the house because Monkey Pig forgot to close the back door..... We will missed you.....

  7. I remember when Woo visited Seattle. She was limping quite severly at that time. Despite her physical problem, she was able to squeezed in and out of the doggie door which was for a small dog. Up to this date Lung Go still wonders how she managed to do that. I supposed Woo is a dog with determination. When Woo wanted to do something, it will be done... her way of course. Woo visited San Antonio in April during A&T's wedding. It was the very first time when "the Family" even Gung Gung and Po Po get together after the 1998 BIG EVENT. Woo was able to see everyone who she loved and Woo said goodbye to all. An added bonus was when the BIG SIX (plus the thorn among the roses) were there in GA. Again we had a good time and we all took care of Woo. In Chinese culture, quality life; longevity and being able to see one's beloved before leaving this world is considered a GOOD BLESSING (HO FOOK HAY). Woo can difinitely be classified in this rare and blessed category. She truly lived her life to the fullest and making every moment count. She lived through hard times (abandoned and later on lived with a strict master) and good times (finally lived with mommy who loved her so much). She traveled more than a lot of us. She ate normally dog food and enjoyed gourmet feasts. She loved and was much loved. She even lived with her "enemies... the cats" for a while. How many of us can truly say "I have been there and done that" but Woo certainly can. Woo, you loved unconditionally and we all love you. You will be very missed especially your mommy. The fond memories you gave her and all of us will be treasured. Goodbye our love...... Wah Toh

  8. Sushi, Woo's Mom need to make a correction. Woo's actually a very talented dog. She is the World Champion of the Fart Competition. She usually don't like to brag about her accomplishment. So, she didn't tell you that she knows how to swim. Look at the video. You can see that she's swimming in the lake. In fact, she swims better than her little brother. It was probably better for her arthritic joint.
