R.I.P. Polka Dot (2010-2010)

(From left to right: Dunkin'*, Snow White, Polka Dot.)

The above photo was taken by Wah Toh a couple months ago.  Polka Dot met an untimely death on July 21.  Her mom, Wah Toh, and her family are in mourning.  What follows is Wah Toh's account of the incident.  We will miss you, Polka Dot.

*The full name of the doggie pictured is "Dunkin' Donuts."  We call him "Dunkin'" for short.  Many people mistakenly believe that his name is "Duncan."

Dear Family,

We finally located the body of Polka Dot and have retrieved her remains.  It was a sorrowful sight (pics available upon request).  The suspect mutilated her head and wings.  Part of her torso was torn.  In the absence of DNA evidence, all circumstantial evidence points to two possible suspects:  one suspect wears a mask and the other is believed to possess nine lives.  The victim did not have a trespassing habit.  She is very mindful of boundaries.

In order not to have Polka Dot lose her life in vain, we have decided to use her remains as bait to lure the criminal.  If caught, we will be sure to use the criminal's body as a sacrifice on Polka Dot's altar.

We inspected the crime scene and found lots of feathers from both Polka Dot and Creamy Espresso (not pictured).  After giving Creamy Espresso a physical check up, we noticed that she also suffered head and eye injuries.  No other wound was noted.

Please join us in mourning this tragic event.  We will update you as the investigation develops.

Wah Toh

  2. I would like to make a correction above regarding the dog's name. His full name is not "Dunkin Donuts" as stated above but Dunkin as in "Sam Dunkin" (pronounced quickly, this name is intended to sound like 'slam dunkin').

  3. --In Honor of a Close Companion--

    Fowl, yet feathered friend
    So abruptly you've departed
    Though short your taken life
    Still leaves many broken hearted.

Each morn your absent spotted head
    remnant plumage duly noted
drives fresh the icy pangs of void
    with sorrow hearts overloaded

Foul we cry to life's official
Foul we cry but you do not appear
All earth's justice this wrong cannot right
No act stays the swell of my tears

As darkness encroaches and safe slumber calls
A line forms one through six
But rest assured your spot is safe
in my heart you're placed o'er all chicks.

  8. I am touched by all the love poured out during our time of loss. I have learned to treasure people/things that come across my life path. One never knows what tomorrow brings. Life is full of uncertainty. Today you are frolicking happily on Nu Warren pasture. Tomorrow you maybe too far from the pasture you once loved. I must say that the poem by Anonymous is truly outstanding. I enjoy every bit of it. Now, whether we find the perpetrator who took PD's life is no longer important. At least her life is remembered by many and a good poem was born out of this tragic event. May our feather friend rest in peace. Wah Toh

  12. After much thought and thorough investigation, I have traced the writer to be someone who had held PD when she was a tiny chick..... Someone who watches the sunset march when the feather friends retire to their slumber..... Someone who herd the feather clan as a shepherd herding the sheep to the pasture of raspberry so to give them a juicy afternoon treat.....can you guess now???? Wah Toh
